What DigbyLabs makes

LabCoat, and the robot we built with it

LabCoat is the free software. A.U.S.T.I.N. is the robot we built on it to show what it can do.

The robot

A.U.S.T.I.N.

The robot we built with LabCoat. An autonomous helper for your home, workshop and life: he knows your face, listens for your voice, sees the room and lends a hand. His thinking happens on your own network. His shell is 3D printed, so he is easy to repair and make your own.

Meet A.U.S.T.I.N.

A.U.S.T.I.N. is built on LabCoat, so the tools that run him are the same ones you use for yours. Want a hand? He can help you build in LabCoat if you would like him to.

Fun robots to build with LabCoat

Each of these is a real robot you can wire up and run from LabCoat. Pick one, or bring your own idea.

Plant-Tending Robot

A small robot that watches your plants. It reads soil moisture, checks leaf health with a camera, and waters them for you.

GPIO4 + Moisture Sensor

Voice Companion Robot

A tabletop robot that listens for its wake word offline on a Pi 5 or NVIDIA Jetson, then answers back through its own speaker.

USB Mic + Speaker Amp

Pet-Feeder Robot

A feeder with eyes. It recognizes your pet's collar with its camera, dispenses a portion, and logs every meal.

GPIO26 / Servo

Expressive Face Robot

A robot face on an 8x32 LED matrix that shows animated expressions, the weather and live stats.

GPIO21 (FastLED / NeoPixel)

Meet A.U.S.T.I.N.

Built to show what LabCoat can do. A helper for your home, workshop and life. He'll bring you the laundry. You still fold it.

Autonomous Utility System, Tooling, Intelligence, Networking

A.U.S.T.I.N. pairs a local AI brain with a Raspberry Pi 5 nervous system (upgradeable to NVIDIA Jetson) and four ESP32 microcontrollers for real-time motor and sensor control, all run through LabCoat OS. His intelligence lives on your own network, his parts are off the shelf, and his shell is 3D printed, so if something breaks you can fix it.

What he does today
Knows your face
Greets the people who live here by name.
Listens and looks
Say "Hey A.U.S.T.I.N." and he turns to face you.
Talks back
Local language model with a warm, light personality.
Sees the room
Object detection plus vision descriptions.
Lends a hand
Two articulated arms and swappable tools on the roadmap.
Stays private
The AI brain runs on your network, not in someone's cloud.
Made to be made yours
3D printed shell
His armor is printed, so a scuffed or broken panel is a reprint, not a service call.
Off-the-shelf parts
Standard boards, motors and sensors you can buy anywhere. Nothing about him is locked away.
Yours to change
Restyle the armor, add sensors, change what each pin does. LabCoat regenerates the firmware so your changes keep working.

His brain lives in your house

A.U.S.T.I.N. sees, hears and remembers things about the people he helps. That belongs to you, so it stays with you.

LabCoat
Language, memory, faces and vision all run inside this box.
No cloud AI service.
No subscription to keep him thinking.
It runs at home
The language model, memory, face recognition and vision all run on hardware in your house.
It stays yours
Each robot's memories stay with its owner. They are never pooled with anyone else's, and never used to train anything.
LabCoat is yours too
It runs on your own computer, and your robot's files stay on it.
Help, not replace
A robot in your home has to earn your trust. Privacy is where that starts.

Features you choose to use, like web lookups, do reach the internet when asked.
